Before you attack me with “oh but BC and AD are Christian and Jesus wasn’t even born in 1 CE”, watch me completely destroy the BCE/CE idea:
- What day is it tomorrow? Tuesday? Oh really, so you’re telling me tomorrow is dedicated to the Norse guy Tyr? HOW OFFENSIVE! I DON’T BELIEVE IN TYR! All in favor of changing Tuesday to “Common Day 1″, raise your hand. No one? Exactly.
- BCE and CE are just as culturally biased as BC and AD are. Why is it that the “common” era somehow begins in the same year that was originally ascribed as 1 AD by a 6th century monk to correspond with (what he thought was) the birthyear of Jesus? If our calendar is to be culturally neutral, it would be the year 14 billion and something.
- But… but… Mr. merry chuck norrmas…. Jesus wasn’t REALLY even born in 1 CE!! Okay, you’re right. But is tomorrow really Tyr’s Day? Does he own that day? No, he doesn’t even exist! So it also doesn’t matter of Jesus was really born in 1 AD or not. Not one bit. The Christian/Western calendar is based on myth, but so is almost everything else. Why single out the Christian mythology-inspired traditions?
Stupid political correctness just won’t die.

Could an honest politician ever be elected these days? One who was able to answer questions in a straightforward way without the constant tap-dancing? One who had consistent set of values and wasn’t afraid to tell you exactly what is on his mind at the risk of alienating some? We have more ‘town hall meetings’ and ‘debates’ then ever before and yet in my opinion they have become more and more vacuous. It’s all about the way the candidates ‘appear’ and about how many different sides of an issue and interests they can pander to and get away with it. It’s about a guy who wants to bring change to Washington but looks like and acts like any other politician. Who wants change but then selects a VP who’s the epitome of a Washington insider. Another guy who vows to keep his campaign clean but turns around and launches vicious ad after vicious ad attacking his opponent. What can I make of all this?

An earlier question suggested that RealClimate.org may be biased because their website is hosted by a group run by some guy who knows Al Gore and is “closely allied” with Greenpeace and MoveOn.org.http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…
Personally I think this is a silly suggestion, because the climate scientists who contribute to RealClimate don’t get a dime for their efforts.
But maybe I’m wrong. So here is my question – if you believe RealClimate.org is biased, can you find one entry on their website which exhibits some sort of bias?
Now, I don’t want to see ad hominem or political attacks. Simpy link the RealClimate entry you are referencing and explain how it is biased.
Or conversely, feel free to provide some example entries that you believe shows that RealClimate is not biased, if that’s the case.
Here is the link to get you startedhttp://www.realclimate.org

I do. I don’t support this war, but to insult a U.S. generals is idiotic.
EXCERPT FROM ARTICLE:
Asked about last week’s ad from the liberal group MoveOn.org Political Action that referred to Gen. David Petraeus as “General Betray Us,” Bush was harsh about both MoveOn and Democratic leaders.
The ad, he said, “was disgusting. It was an attack not only on Gen. Petraeus but on the U.S. military. … I was disappointed that not more leaders in the Democratic Party spoke out more strongly against that kind of ad.” The president’s conclusion: “Most Democrats are afraid of irritating a left-wing group — or are more afraid of irritating them — then they are of irritating the U.S. military. That was a sorry deal. … It’s one thing to attack me, but another to attack somebody like Gen. Petraeus.”

For example, this guy and I were debating about Obama. After what I perceived were intelligent questions on my behalf that I prefaced did NOT reflect my personal beliefs…he quickly attacked me & said, “you sound like a sell out who critiques black people,” rather than asking my questions.
I helped out on Obama’s political campaign and volunteered at several rallies. I read his books, etc…just to let you know his argument was moot.
While I do like Obama’s platform, I think it’s fair to ask questions about his political efforts. I do not think asking simple questions, such as, “why did you vote for Obama?” or “what do you like about him?” Etc constitutes selling out…
So how do you deal with someone who argues using ad hominen attacks?

By a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court on Thursday rolled back restrictions on corporate spending in federal campaigns. The decision could unleash a torrent of corporate-funded attack ads in upcoming elections.
“Because speech is an essential mechanism of democracy — it is the means to hold officials accountable to the people — political speech must prevail against laws that would suppress it by design or inadvertence,” wrote Justice Anthony Kennedy for the majority.
In his dissent, Justice John Paul Stevens accused the majority of judicial activism and attacked the use of corporate personhood in the case: “The conceit that corporations must be treated identically to natural persons in the political sphere is not only inaccurate but also inadequate to justify the Court’s disposition of this case.”
Republicans offered measured praise for the decision, but progressive good-government groups and Democrats responded angrily and vowed to fight back with legislation.
“With its ruling today, the Supreme Court has given a green light to a new stampede of special interest money in our politics,” said President Obama in a statement. “It is a major victory for big oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and the other powerful interests that marshal their power every day in Washington to drown out the voices of everyday Americans… That’s why I am instructing my Administration to get to work immediately with Congress on this issue. We are going to talk with bipartisan Congressional leaders to develop a forceful response to this decision.”
Democracy 21’s Fred Wertheimer, for years a leading advocate of campaign finance reform, called the decision a “disaster for the American people and a dark day for the Supreme Court.”
“The Supreme Court majority has acted recklessly to free up corporations to use their immense, aggregate corporate wealth to flood federal elections and buy government influence. The Fortune 100 companies alone had combined revenues of $13 trillion and profits of $605 billion during the last election cycle,” Wertheimer wrote.
“Under today’s decision, insurance companies, banks, drug companies, energy companies and the like will be free to each spend $5 million, $10 million or more of corporate funds to elect or defeat a federal candidate — and thereby to buy influence over the candidate’s positions on issues of economic importance to the companies.”

He is getting negative attacks for asking “are you tired of negative political ads?”…but I am tired of negative political ads, and we all know we have to listen to them for almost another year..and then we get a break for about 2 minutes and they will start again. …(question break for the yahoo police) you agree?
He said “Merry Christmas”…shame on him!!!
I thought it was great for a candidate to say Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays. It shows that he will not fall into the political correct ways that 12% of America wants to run with. (I dont know if 12% is the right number..but I’m sure someboby will let me know)
So here’s the main question. Is it fake outrage, or was people actually offended by Huckabee wishing Americans good health and a safe Christmas?

In this morning’s edition, the New York Times’ own Ombudsman stated in writing that the Times violated its own published policies by
a.) giving moveon a discount on an ad and then running it on the very day that moveone wanted it run, therefor negating the conditions of the discount policy, and
b.) running an ad in violation of their own stated policy of not accepting political ads that contain personal attacks on individuals.
The only answer is that no one should trust anything that is published in that fishwrapper because they have violated their own policies in order to take the stark, extreme leftist view and go out of their way to promote the aims of a partisan political action group with a notoriously anti-American bent. This whole situation serves to illustrate that there is no low that the New Your Times will not sink to in order to promote their own secular progressive program of lies and deceit.
