Forgive me for being so ignorant and uninformed, friends. See, I don’t watch the news and I don’t read the paper, but listening to NPR the other day there were a bunch of conservative think-tank eggheads on there talking about McCain’s lack of coverage by the media. Well, what can be done? Obama is the first black candidate with a real shot at the white house, he delivers exciting speeches, and his campaign is unconventional….
On the other hand you have crusty, dusty old McCain with typical attack ads (the latest being the most baseless and untrue), waving the limp flag of a nearly dead political party.
So why does McCain deserve more attention from the media? I am very curious to see this logic.

The McCain campaign will be pouring millions of dollars — if not tens of millions — into negative attack ads against Barack Obama before McCain accepts the Republican nomination on Thursday. His campaign has to spend every last dollar of primary funds they’ve raked in from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs.
His campaign manager admitted that all McCain has to rely on is attacks, saying that for them, “This election is not about issues.”
He doesn’t want Americans to notice that the Republican platform is the most extreme we’ve ever seen. With so much at stake, we can’t allow another election to be determined by petty and divisive political tactics.
They’ve come out against the life-saving possibilities of stem cell research.
They don’t even mention protecting equal pay for equal work.
They support huge tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% of Americans.
They’ve almost completely ignored the $10 billion we’re spending every month in Iraq.
And they make zero exceptions for a woman’s right to choose — even in cases of rape, incest, or to protect the life of the mother.
If that all sounds like more of the same, it is. McCain is offering a third term of the disastrous Bush agenda, so it’s no wonder his campaign would choose to focus on attacks instead of issues.
As Hillary said “We can’t afford the alternative…no way, no how, no McCain.” Spread the Truth. I’m doubling my monthly contribution although McCain doesn’t think little people like me who are on small retirement checks can make a difference.

why do you think McCain was defending Obama this week against a Rev Wright attack ad in North Carolina payed for by his own party?
he knows that if the Repubs attack Obama, Obama will have to choice but to retaliate
wait till America sees the skeletons that come out of McCains closet!!
he has built his career of taking obscene amounts of money and gifts from defense contractors
he just got a another huge campaigh donation from the contractors that just got awarded the new Air Force Tanker-Planes deal
he was willing to send the planes and jobs overseas (to France no less) just so he could line his political warchest
he’s as dirty as they come
definitely NOT the patriot he makes himself out to be

Before you attack me with “oh but BC and AD are Christian and Jesus wasn’t even born in 1 CE”, watch me completely destroy the BCE/CE idea:
- What day is it tomorrow? Tuesday? Oh really, so you’re telling me tomorrow is dedicated to the Norse guy Tyr? HOW OFFENSIVE! I DON’T BELIEVE IN TYR! All in favor of changing Tuesday to “Common Day 1″, raise your hand. No one? Exactly.
- BCE and CE are just as culturally biased as BC and AD are. Why is it that the “common” era somehow begins in the same year that was originally ascribed as 1 AD by a 6th century monk to correspond with (what he thought was) the birthyear of Jesus? If our calendar is to be culturally neutral, it would be the year 14 billion and something.
- But… but… Mr. merry chuck norrmas…. Jesus wasn’t REALLY even born in 1 CE!! Okay, you’re right. But is tomorrow really Tyr’s Day? Does he own that day? No, he doesn’t even exist! So it also doesn’t matter of Jesus was really born in 1 AD or not. Not one bit. The Christian/Western calendar is based on myth, but so is almost everything else. Why single out the Christian mythology-inspired traditions?
Stupid political correctness just won’t die.

I sure as hell am!!!!
I am so tired of seeing political ads on TV, so tired of seeing those two guys’ faces on almost every news channel 24/7, so tired of hearing my friends argue over which candidate is better.
At the same time, I’m kind of dreading it, mainly because I’m scared if Obama gets elected (but before you start attacking me, neither candidate is that great, in my opinion.)
What has happened to American politics?
Anyone agree?

Since all the Democrats already have their hands dirty with mud, wouldn’t it be a refreshing change if the Republicans united under one candidate (not Guiliani) and didn’t use attack ads?
I think that would garner a LOT more votes, don’t you think?
Also, shouldn’t Guiliani run for President in the Democratic party? He shares much more of their ideals than Republican morals. Just wondering.

Too often there is little in the way of ‘productive debate’ on this forum: is this because many Americans have no critical thinking skills (educational factors), or because Americans are more inclined than other cultures to accept smear campaigns as legitimate forms of ‘debate’ (as exemplified in 30 second political attack ads aired on TV)? Poor education or warped cultural values?
